"Homegrown" herbs, broccoli, chard, cucumber, chard, and spring mix

Farm

Clark Fork Organics is a family farm on the west side of the Missoula
valley. We focus on specialty crops, such as salad mix and arugula.
We also grow cut flowers, culinary herbs and a diverse array of
vegetables, from French filet beans and English cucumbers to fennel,
carrots, beets, broccoli and kale.

This season will be our 18th.. We farm on roughly 6 acres and have 1
heated greenhouse where we grow our starts and bedding plants for
market. After bedding plant season, we remove the greenhouse tables
and plant directly into the ground. We also have 2 unheated hoop
houses where we plant early crops – spinach, salad mix, carrots,
beets… then warm weather crops – basil, tomatoes, eggplants,
peppers and cucumbers. We sell at the Missoula Farmers Market, to The
Good Food Store, to the Missoula Community Cooperative, to local
restaurants and through the Western Montana Grower’s Cooperative.

Clark Fork Organics is run by Kim Murchison, full-time, and Josh
Slotnick, who works on the farm before and after his other job. We
hire 3-4 apprentices each season. Our children Quinn, Sophie and
Tasha help with irrigation, planting, harvests, cooking and chicken
and goat care.

We have chickens to provide us with eggs and to add fertility to our
fields and to eat bugs and help control grasshoppers and other pests.
We also have 3 goats, Nellie, Lulu and Flo, who are helping us learn
more about animals while keeping weeds down and providing us with
manure and milk. We rotate the chickens and goats on pasture divided
into 4 paddocks.

We believe our farm should provide healthy food for our community,
life for our soil and sustenance for ourselves. We hope our farming
contributes to the health of our community today, and helps to keep
local agriculture alive for the future. Our goal is to grow good food
from a healthy plot of land, full of diverse plants, strong animals
and fulfilled people. We strive to keep learning and improving our
farming methods. We are proudly part of MSGU and Homegrown, and as
such our farm meets the National Organic Program requirements and
more. We are excited to have a comprehensive set of principles to
guide our work – our farmers’ pledge. Farming accordingly, we will
grow the best possible produce while building soil and caring for the
land.
